- INTRODUCTION:
User interface or UI on its most basic means the series of screens, pages, and visual elements. These include buttons and icons. This helps a person and enables him to interact with a service or product.
On the other hand, if discussed user experience or UX; it is simply the internal experience that a person may have as they interact with every aspect of a company’s product and services.
Now, we know the basic meaning of these two terms. It is now essential to discuss the mistake which the majority of people do on this topic.
They use these terms interchangeably! This is a matter of concern as it was incorrect and can lead to lots of confusion. So, today we will discuss the same but before that let us gather some more information about these topics.
BUT FIRSTLY LET US DISCUSS THE BASICS OF THE TOPICS.
- WHAT IS UI AND ITS BASICS?
As discussed above,
User interface or UI on its most basic means the series of screens, pages, and visual elements. These include buttons and icons. This helps a person and enables him to interact with a service or product.
So, with the technological advancements and as any other growing technology; the user interface roles and duties have also emerged and thereby evolved. It has evolved on the grounds of systems, preferences, and even accessibilities.
Now, the UI designers, just not only work on a computer interface but mobiles and virtual reality too. This is also used in invisible or screen-less interfaces such as light, voice, and gestures.
No doubt the people working in this field have had limitless opportunities. They can find to work on mobiles, wearable technology, these are few of them!
Unless and until we are using computers as a part of our life, the need and demand for this are not going to shatter.
- WHAT IS UX AND ITS BASICS?
As discussed above, User experience or UX; is simply the internal experience that a person may have as they interact with every aspect of a company’s product and services.
With the improvements in UI, there was the emergence of a new term UX. Now there was something with users to interact. No matter it was bad, good, positive, negative, or neutral!
In the 1990s a cognitive scientist; Don Norman is given the credit to find and coin this term. He worked at apple!
Peter Moreville developed Usability Honeycomb. This has become a foundation for the most exemplary practice for the people working in the field of user experience.
This guides the professionals in the best way possible. There are few aspects which are important to be discussed! These are sort of guidelines:
1. How will they discover the product of your company?
2. What is the series of actions that needs to take place when they interact with the interface?
3. What are the thoughts and feelings that arise when they are trying to complete a task?
4. What are the impressions that take away from the interactions as a whole?
Well, it is a fact that, if both UI and UX professionals work together it will help to the all-round development and upliftments.
- DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UI AND UX?
On the grounds, there are four major differences between UI and UX.
1. So, the UI deal with the quality of the interaction that is associated with the end-to-end user has with the products.
On the other hand, UX deals with the purpose and the functionality of the product.
So, this is the primary difference that is to be kept while discussing both the terms.
2. The second difference is that the user interface is an artistic component as it is associated with the design and interface with the product.
It is to affect what the end-to-end user is going to hear, see and feel.
But based on comparison on the other hand; user experience or UX is associated much with the social component for the market research.
It is also associated with communicating with the clients. This is done to understand the needs and the requirements.
Thus this is the second difference which we need to keep in mind while we are using these terms.
3. Thirdly; the UX is associated with the project management and the work of the analysis.
Whereas UI is more of technical work. If explained in detail; user experience had to focus on the fact that it is associated with the work of analysis where the decision is made based on the data.
On the other hand user interface is more of the technical work. As it is concerned with the development of the design components of the finished product.
So, this was the third and most significant difference between the user interface and the user experience.
4. Even the difference can be made on the grounds of the key responsibilities which they follow.
Customer strategy, competitor analysis, prototyping, planning, wire firing, analysis, and iteration, tracking goals and integration
These are some of the basic duties or responsibilities to be done by the UX professional!
Whereas if discussed the UI designer, the major responsibilities are Branding, user guide analysis, customer analysis, design research, interactivity and animation, UI prototyping is amongst the responsibilities to be performed by the UI professionals. These were the major differences between these two terms UI and UX.
- CONCLUSION:
So, people use these terms interchangeably but these two terms user interface and the user experience are very different from each other.
On the ground level, user experience is associated with the project management and the analysis of the work. Whereas the user interface is to do more with the technical aspects.
There is no doubt in the fact that the coming time is of such UI and UX professionals. But at the same time, it is also important to understand the basic difference between the two terms. So, that we may not use it interchangeably.
