Why we built it

B2bSamsaraFleet was built as two connected products on one backend: a web console the fleet office runs the day from, and a companion Android and iOS app for drivers. The console covers drivers and vehicles, dispatch and routes, working-hours compliance, inspections and defects, work orders, documents, driver training, messaging, and a full audit trail of every change made.

The problem it solves

Haulage operators have to keep drivers within hours-of-service rules while also running dispatch, inspections, maintenance and paperwork. When the office and the driver work from separate records, the two sides end up disagreeing about the same day. Compliance is also fragile when violations are stored as fixed records, because correcting a log does not correct the history built on it.

Benefits & impact

The system holds the FMCSA and EU hours-of-service rule books, and a fleet can define its own shift rules on top. Remaining-hours clocks and violations are derived on the fly from a driver's duty events, so nothing is stored and a corrected log corrects its own history. In the driver app, drivers change duty status, check their hours before setting off, work through their stops, photograph delivery paperwork, raise fault reports, take assigned training and message the office. The app keeps working without a signal and syncs when one returns, and both sides read the same records live.

Scaling it further

The backend runs on Supabase — PostgreSQL with row-level security, Auth, Storage, Realtime and Deno Edge Functions — with the schema managed as SQL migrations, so more fleets, drivers and vehicles can be added on the same data model. Because compliance is computed from rule books, supporting a new regulatory region means adding a rule set, not rebuilding the product.

Future features

Potential future directions include additional hours-of-service rule books for more regions, richer compliance and fleet reporting, telematics and ELD hardware integrations, and deeper route planning and dispatch optimisation.
