Why we built it
Dent Detection was built to automate vehicle damage inspection from photos using a YOLO11m-based detection model. The system combines image analysis with an API-driven dashboard so inspection results can be submitted, processed, and reviewed in one place. It focuses on turning visual vehicle damage into structured findings that applications and operational teams can use.
The problem it solves
Vehicle damage inspections can require manual review of photos to identify and classify visible issues. This creates additional work when inspections need to be repeated across many vehicles or images and makes consistent classification harder to maintain. Dent Detection provides a defined detection workflow for supported damage classes and keeps the resulting inspection history accessible through the system.
Benefits & impact
The application can detect six supported damage classes: dent, scratch, crack, glass shatter, broken lamp, and flat tire. Inspection results can be summarized by damage type and severity, while completed analyses are retained through the history workflow. The dashboard also exposes API activity, response status, and request timing, making the system easier to test and monitor during integration.
Scaling it further
The API-based architecture provides a foundation for connecting the detection service to other vehicle inspection or operational systems. It can be extended to process more inspections and support applications that need structured damage-detection results. Scaling can also include additional infrastructure for image processing and broader integration of the inspection API.
Future features
Future development could add support for additional damage classes, improve inspection result visualization, and provide more detailed severity reporting. Batch photo or multi-angle vehicle inspections could extend the current single-inspection workflow. Additional API monitoring, reporting, and integration capabilities could also make the detection service easier to use within larger vehicle management systems.
